This is one of several books I've searched out recently dealing with mid-century housing. Published in 1951 (13 by 10 inches, 192 pages) with reprinted material from McCall's magazine between 1945 and 1950. As it all appeared in the magazine it's all in color.
I found it a fascinating book describing twenty-nine family houses with plenty of photos, floor and elevation plans. The last thirty-one pages have a 'Primer for modern houses', a fifties description of what to look for and consider when buying or building a home. An intriguing aspect of the book is that several of the houses are models for external photos and life-size studio shots for room sets.
Copies are still available on the net and reasonably priced. Luckily I found a copy with a cover.
