A laminates story

This large and thick paperback reveals the history of the Formica company. It has an unusual editorial format. The first eighty-eight pages have an illustrated look at the origins and development of the company around the world. Followed by twenty-four pages with an illustrated company timeline. 128 pages in color of Formica room-sets and ads based around colors: blue; yellow; brown; green et cetera. Oddly these pages are perforated into eight sections as if the reader might want to tear out a color section of a picture. I think the perforations are no more than the book designer's whimsey. The last 164 pages have the  company history pages translated into Finnish, French, Spanish, Chinese and Thai.

Despite the contents being in an unusual format the book is quite interesting, especially how a fairly simple laminate in the early years of the last century developed into all sorts of surface material technology (as the company calls their products). Formica is now owned by the Dutch Broadview Holding.
